Most Highly Regarded Firms: Illinois 2008 - Arbitration

Commercial arbitration is once again one of the largest chapters in this publication, reflecting its continued popularity as an alternative to settling disputes in the courtroom. We identify 25 as leaders in the field, with specialities encompassing work as both counsel and neutral in domestic and international matters.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Banking 2008

Research for the fifth edition of The International Who's Who of Banking Lawyers has uncovered a wealth of talent. A total of 367 lawyers from 53 separate countries make the grade. The 55 extra entries this year reflect the growing levels of specialisation on offer to clients in countries where lawyers might traditionally have been regarded as generalists.

Research Trends and Conclusions: Aviation 2008

In February 2008, Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary predicted a "perfect storm" in the aviation industry. This bleak forecast has proved perceptive: small to mid-sized companies such as Aloha Airlines and Oasis Hong Kong Airlines, which both collapsed early in the year, were casualties of rocky financial markets, a dip in consumer spending and hikes in fuel costs, which have troubled the whole industry. In this increasingly difficult market, insolvencies, restructurings and mergers look set to loom large in the coming year, affecting carriers of all sizes.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Regulatory Communications 2008

The research for the sixth edition of The International Who's Who of Regulatory Communications Lawyers lists 243 professionals in 45 countries.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Mining 2008

With the continuing turmoil in the financial markets and the relative weakness of the US dollar, the price of precious metals continues to reach record high levels, with gold prices increasing by 30 per cent in 2007 and platinum, palladium and silver also rising sharply. With such potential rewards on offer, this continues to prompt similarly elevated levels of activity in the mining sector across the world. Our research has identified 235 individuals in 37 countries who have demonstrated the highest levels of expertise in this vibrant area.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Commercial Litigation 2007

Dispute resolution is a central part of the service that law firms offer their clients, and this often takes the form of commercial litigation. The research for this chapter identifies 466 individuals in 50 countries as litigators of the highest proficiency, reflecting the depth and geographical breadth of the expertise in this field of law.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Florida 2007 - Construction

Despite recent turbulent times and uncertainty about the US mortgage market, construction remains a major industry in Florida. Our research identifies 26 lawyers from 17 firms who have proven levels of expertise representing a range of clients in the industry, including owners, contractors and subcontractors, in both contentious and non-contentious matters.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Florida 2007 – Competition

As one might expect, the scope for competition law is smaller in Florida than it would be in New York or Washington, DC, for example. However, our research has uncovered ten individuals from eight firms, all with an excellent reputation for competition-related work. The selected individuals counsel and litigate on behalf of a diverse client base on matters including the laws concerning cartels, monopolisation and mergers, and in some cases all three.
