The fast-paced, volatile businesses of the internet and of e-commerce are witnessing a resurgence and present unique challenges to companies and lawyers, as the law adapts to new developments. This chapter identifies 262 leading practitioners in 34 jurisdictions. These individuals answer a growing worldwide demand for guidance past the pitfalls of data privacy, security and e-commerce, as well as complex IT and outsourcing transactions. Two trends emerge from the research: while the greatest concentrations of practitioners occur in England and California with 26 and 27 nominees, the firms with the greatest turnout are invariably international, with offices across the globe.

Despite possessing a relatively small IP bar, Florida’s trademarks lawyers are very highly regarded by their peers inside and outside the state. Specialist firms shine in our research, constituting the majority of the outfits included.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Florida 2007 - Shipping & Maritime

Shipping and maritime law is, by its very nature, a broad practice. In essence it is a collection of legal matters that only occur at sea, or involve the maritime industry or those using its services. Our research uncovers 20 individuals from nine firms, all extolled for their work on a variety of matters of shipping and maritime law. They work on issues relating to charter-parties, contracts for carriage of goods and cargo claims to collisions, salvage, products liability and personal injury cases. A number of shipping lawyers, who specialise in non-contentious work, also appear, acting for financiers, shipyards and owners on complex financial arrangements.

Florida boasts a huge real estate market, with new developments in constant demand. Even in the throes of a general market slowdown Florida’s combination of mild climate and natural beauty continues to attract businesses, both domestic and international, interested in buying and developing properties. Twenty-seven practitioners from 12 firms are included here, many of the firms originated in the state and exert a healthy presence in the field.
