Most Highly Regarded Firms: Singapore 2007 - Corporate Tax

The research for this chapter identifies ten practitioners, from seven firms, considered by clients and peers to be the leading individuals in Singapore’s corporate tax market. The following pages identify individuals with a wide range of specialisations – international tax specialists are included alongside domestic experts. We have also included lawyers who are members of multidisciplinary practices as well as partners in more traditional law partnerships.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Singapore 2007 - Franchise

Singapore boasts a thriving franchise community, with over 170 foreign franchises in sectors such as education and training, restaurants and fast food. The Franchising and Licensing Association (Singapore) (FLA) began as Singapore’s national franchise body in 1993 and was formerly known as the Singapore International Franchise Association. Through the efforts of this association – and a number of others – Singapore is fast becoming a franchise hub, and consequently there is an increased need for legal support. This chapter identifies seven practitioners that we recognise as the leading lights of Singapore’s franchise bar and they spend a proportion of their time representing franchisors, franchisees and companies of all sizes, in diverse industries.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Singapore 2007 - Business Crime Defence

Business crime defence is an increasingly important area in Singapore, where a number of recent high-profile cases have been dominating the headlines. This chapter identifies a select group of nine lawyers with expertise in the representation of companies, corporate officers and individuals in criminal litigation arising from their business activities.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Singapore 2007 - Management Labour & Employment

This chapter identifies private practice lawyers with a proven track record representing and advising management on all aspects of labour, employment and industrial relations law. A number also have experience in litigation matters involving employment discrimination laws, sexual harassment, employee loyalty, wrongful discharge and individual employment contracts. We identify a select group of five lawyers.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Singapore 2007 - Aviation

Our research indicates that Singapore does not possess a large pool of aviation lawyers. What our findings do uncover, however, is that the seven individuals profiled in this chapter are not only well-known on the domestic scene but – judging by the levels of international nominations – are also some of the most respected practitioners in the global market.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: Singapore 2007 - Arbitration

Commercial arbitration has been recognised for some years as a viable alternative to the court system, and the confidentiality, speed and international dimension it offers contribute to its ongoing popularity. This chapter identifies 14 individuals, whether acting as neutrals, panellists or counsel or combining these roles, that are leaders in arbitration.

Most Highly Regarded Firms: California 2007 – Real Estate

Continuing expansion in the increasingly competitive real estate sector ensures that this is one of the best-represented practice areas in the publication and a key competency for many of the law firms listed on the following pages. The practitioners we list provide advice to clients – tenants, investors and developers – on all aspects of buying, selling, letting, developing and managing real estate. There are 52 practitioners listed on the following pages, from 28 firms across the state of California.
