González Calvillo leads our research this year with an impressive six listings hailing from their Mexico City office. Founding partner Enrique González Calvillo’s notable practice focuses on cross-border transactions in the energy and power generation spaces. The “fantastic” Jorge Cervantes Trejo is known for his great track record, commerciality and perceptive manner. Jorge Mondragón is recognised for his expertise advising multinationals and domestic corporates in M&A transactions and foreign investments. José Victor Torres Gómez specialises in cross-border transactions and is praised for his receptive, professional approach during complex transactions. Carlos Diez Garcia draws praise for his vast experience in complex cross-border transactions in the regulated industries and is particularly knowledgeable in the auto-part industry. Managing partner Miguel R Valle Salinas boasts almost 20 years of experience representing domestic and international clients in M&A transactions and can count DuPont, Chemours, Honda Trading de México and Honda North America among his clients.

Four lawyers are included from leading full-service firm Basham Ringe y Correa. Daniel Del Río heads the firm’s M&A practice and is regarded as “one of the senior statesmen” in the corporate market. Del Rio specialises in advising domestic and international clients on issues relating to outbound investment and inbound foreign investment respectively. Javier Becerra is a reputable practitioner with over 40 years of experience advising clients on M&A transactions with a focus on cross-border matters. Juan Carlos Serra Campillo has considerable experience advising clients on joint ventures, M&A transactions, corporate reorganisations and investments, and is particularly knowledgeable in the energy and mining sectors. In Monterrey, Carlos Velazquez De Leon is also highly recommended.

At Von Wobeser y Sierra, three standout corporate specialists are singled out. Javier Lizardi Calderón draws praise from clients and peers alike for consistently delivering a “high-calibre service”. One source notes, “He has a great understanding of both the law and the practical aspects of doing business in Mexico.” Sources are effusive in their praise of Luis Burgueño whom one source deemed “one of the brightest lawyers that I have come across – I haven’t seen a problem he cannot solve”. Jorge Montaño V is a well-known practitioner with a reputation for possessing “excellent business judgement”.

Galicia Abogados’ founding partner Manuel Galicia is a fantastic lawyer and a prominent fixture of the Mexican corporate landscape. He is a transactional specialist and regularly represents both domestic and international corporates in M&A transactions across a range of industry sectors. The “superb” Christian Lippert H also comes highly recommended.

At Nader Hayaux y Goebel, the “eminent” Michell Nader S is a leading finance lawyer who regularly advises domestic and international clients on M&A transactions. Hans Goebel Caviedes is a respected practitioner thanks to his “stellar work” on cross-border M&A transactions.

Carlos Creel C of his own firm, Creel Abogados, is deemed a definite inclusion by peers who regard him as “one of the country’s premier M&A lawyers”. He specialises in advising public and private entities on issues relating to M&A transactions and corporate governance.

Ritch Mueller Heather y Nicolau’s Thomas Heather is a longstanding fixture in the Mexican market who boasts over 40 years of experience advising clients on M&A transactions and corporate governance issues. According to interviewees, “Heather’s reputation in sophisticated corporate speaks for itself.”

At Santamarina y Steta, Alberto Saavedra O impresses interviewees with his “sharp, perceptive mind” and his ability to handle large, high stakes deals efficiently and effectively.

Market sources deem Jáuregui y Del Valle’s Miguel Jáuregui Rojas "dedicated, thorough and knowledgeable" and praise his "proven track record" on a number of transactions.
