Feigen-Graf is a specialist business crime offering with a sterling reputation in the market for defending both individuals and corporates. In Frankfurt, Hanns Feigen is recognised as “one of the top three criminal lawyers in Germany”. He has an impressive portfolio of clients, representing and coordinating cases for board members of companies such as Deutsche Bank and UBS. In Cologne, Walther Graf is consistently recommended for his prominent practice, including defending top executives and companies in business crime cases, as well as the implementation of compliance programmes. He was recently involved in the successful defence of Ex-Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking, who was cleared of market manipulation. Bernd Gross is also a highly regarded partner of the firm, with a source remarking, “He is a very diligent lawyer, who knows his cases and clients well.”

Krause & Kollegen is a top business crime practice with three particularly noteworthy practitioners in this space. The firm is spearheaded by the practice of Daniel Krause, who is “by all accounts an outstanding lawyer”, according to one source. Krause acted as counsel to Porsche in its in VW Options probe. Carsten Wegner and Patrick Teubner are also well regarded in the market.

HammPartner Rechtsanwälte is an experienced boutique of nine criminal law counsel. Three names are recognised in this chapter for their practices, including founder Rainer Hamm, who is widely regarded as one of the top 10 business crime lawyers in Germany and “the go-to specialist in appeals”. Regina Michalke and Stefan Kirsch also rank highly in our research.

Thomas Deckers Wehnert & Elsner is certainly among the leading firms in the market, regularly representing prominent individuals and corporates in high-profile disputes, including fraud, bribery and tax crime cases. Sven Thomas is regarded pre-eminently by his peers. “He is a grandee of the criminal bar,” sums up one respondent. The “excellent” Anne Wehnert and Marcus Mosiek complete the firm’s listings.

Wessing & Partner has two top lawyers listed. Jürgen Wessing is a longstanding criminal law practitioner noted for his “extensive experience and encyclopaedic knowledge”. Heiko Ahlbrecht is highly rated by respondents who regard him as “an intelligent strategist”.
