Canada: Corporate Tax Experts 2016

In this chapter, we recognise nine of the country’s corporate tax experts for their impressive consultancy, valuation and expert witness testimony.

At the University of Calgary’s Department of Economics, Jack Mintz enjoys a fantastic reputation in the tax market, both in Canada and on the international stage, and is considered one of Canada’s premier tax experts. He is an experienced expert witness and his tax expertise is regularly sought after by governments and corporates.

Brian Arnold of the University of Waterloo comes is an authority on complex cross-border tax issues and comes highly regarded for his experience advising governments, the UN and the OECD.

Richard Wise, from ull-service chartered accountancy and business advisory firm MNP, is a seasoned expert with over 40 years of business valuation experience for taxation purposes. He is also well versed in contentious matters.

At Campbell Valuation Partners, managing partner Howard Johnson is a “formidable expert” with extensive experience acting as an expert witness on complex valuation matters.

The Morassutti Group’s founder Larry Morassutti is “a go-to expert” for complex real estate valuation matters thanks to his significant real estate advisory and management expertise.

David Atlin at real estate litigation and dispute resolution consultancy Altus, is a well-respected valuations specialist known for his “strategic acumen”.

Dennis Leung out of Grant Thornton’s Toronto office is a reputable name in the market with an active consultancy practice focusing on business valuation in the context of corporate and tax reorganisations.

Deloitte’s Richard Taylor leads the firm’s business valuation practice in Toronto and is “a leading name” in the market. He boasts over 30 years of consulting experience and has acted as an expert witness on valuation issues before provincial and federal courts.

Daniel Thornton of the Queen’s School of Business is praised for his wealth of experience testifying before the Canadian courts and tax authorities on accounting and valuation issues.
