Uwa Ohiku heads the department and has an impressive portfolio of multinational clients covering the full range of IP matters. One source reports that “she is really fantastic, in terms of her ability, commerciality and client handling”. Founding partner Lookman Durosinmi-Etti has longstanding experience in all areas of IP law with particular expertise in anti-counterfeiting and trademark disputes. In many quarters he is regarded as “the doyen of the bar”. Obafemi Agaba is in charge of brand protection. He is “a high-quality litigator” and “a top choice” for infringement proceedings. Managing partner Koye Edu is well known as “a strong commercial litigator” and has extensive experience in anti-counterfeiting and brand enforcement matters.

Second in our ranking with two highly regarded market-leaders is Allan & Ogunkeye. Managing partner Marlies Allan is considered “one of the most knowledgeable IP practitioners in the market”. Obatosin Ogunkeye specialises in anti-counterfeiting, and trademark and patent enforcement. David Garrick Kayode & Co’s managing partner Olugboyega Kayode is “an esteemed veteran of IP law”, having been active in this area for 40 years.

At GO Sodipo & Co, Bankole Sodipo is “a top player” having been involved in some of the most significant trademark and patent enforcement matters in Nigeria. He is known as “a distinguished and intelligent lawyer”.

Afam Nwokedi of Stillwaters is well-noted for his experience and expertise in both contentious and non-contentious trademark, patent and copyright matters.

Lara Kayode is the founding partner of the highly regarded IP boutique O Kayode & Company. According to one respondent, “She provides strong and creative enforcement strategies for her clients.”

Ladi Taiwo is the co-founding partner at Abdulai Taiwo & Co and heads its IP practice. He is well regarded for his trademark practice, which includes enforcement strategies for an international client base.

Mena Ajakpovi leads the IP practice Abraham & Co, covering the registration, management and enforcement of trademarks and patents. He is reputedly “commercially orientated and responsive” in his advice.

Sam Okagbue is a founding partner of the IP boutique George Ikoli & Okagbue, who leads a practice with a longstanding reputation in trademark prosecution and enforcement.

Banwo & Ighodalo’s Femi Olubanwo leads the IP practice and is praised for his “swift actions in anti-counterfeiting proceedings” and as “a provider of commercially sensible and practical legal solutions”.

Chuma Anosike, founding partner of Chuma Anosike & Co, is active in the registration, protection, enforcement of trademarks, patents and copyrights. “He has a strong understanding of IP issues in the region,” say peers.

Olufola Wusu heads the IP team at Megathos Law Practice and is credited for his “attention to detail and commercial insight”.
