Austria: Environment Analysis 2015

Energy efficiency continues to be a key consideration in Austria and there are various public subsidies to support projects. At the end of 2013 a new act on waste management entered into force which amended regulations on recycling and collection of waste. In this specialist field, we single out five practitioners.

Haslinger Nagele Partner has two lawyers recommended. Wolfgang Berger specialises in environmental, industrial and installation; waste management and administrative law. His expertise is “second to none”. Wilhelm Bergthaler has a “stellar reputation” and provides “sensible, pragmatic advice” on environmental issues.

At Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Stephan Denk is noted for his environmental expertise. He advises a considerable number of energy companies.

Schoenherr’s Christian Schmelz is a “talented lawyer” with “strong negotiation skills”.

Kurt Retter is co-head of the regulatory and procurement practice group at Wolf Theiss. He leads the regulatory team and is “first-rate” on environmental law issues.
