The firm garners most listings in our management labour and employment publication where we feature five “outstanding” lawyers. Peter Zinober is co-chair of the firm’s global labour and employment and global human capital solutions practices. He is “one of the best litigators in Florida” and specialises in the defence of employment discrimination cases in state and federal court. Zinober is joined in the Tampa office by Richard McCrea Jr, a “talented” jury trial lawyer. In Miami, Joseph Fleming is a “distinguished practitioner” with a practice that covers opposition to union efforts and collective bargaining negotiations. Based in Philadelphia, Robert Goldich has over 30 years’ experience and harbours specific expertise in the areas of complex employment and ERISA litigation. He boasts many Fortune 100 companies among his client list. Outside of the US, Dorothé Smits advises on individual and collective labour law for domestic and international clients. She is a “leading light” in Dutch employment law.

Robert J Ivanhoe is chair of the firm’s global real estate practice and leads a “brilliant” team, three of whom are listed in our real estate publication. He is a “major player” in the area and “top of the list” for many of our respondents. In Miami, Albert Quentel is a “senior statesman” whose work has helped shape the practice of real estate law. Steven Fleissig, based in New Jersey, provides “comprehensive advice” to real estate owners on purchase, sale, leasing and financing matters. Michael T Fishman is co-chair of the firm’s Chicago real estate practice and is “one of the main practitioners” in the area. He is “exceedingly knowledgeable in the technical aspects of cross-border real estate funds and joint ventures”.

Greenberg Traurig has a “well regarded” corporate immigration practice which is best represented in our research by its McLean office. Laura Foote Reiff, who co-manages the office, is “outstanding” and a favourite among our respondents for her “comprehensive and knowledgeable advice” in a variety of compliance issues. She is joined by Martha Schoonover, co-chair of the business immigration group, who has a broad practice which covers both immigration assistance to employers and representing companies facing US government investigations or audits. She is an “excellent advocate who really understands her clients and their businesses”.

The firm has a highly successful environment practice, demonstrated by its recent triumph in Lozman v City of Riviera Beach. David Mandelbaum, co-chair of the national environmental practice, specialises in complex problems including some Superfund matters and has impressed our respondents with his “innovative solutions”. In Boston, Hamilton Hackney uses his “sharp intellect” to great effect in his broad environmental practice which covers property damage actions, compliance counselling and enforcement matters. Tampa-based David B Weinstein “stands above the rest” in Florida and is “definitely the one you want on your side”. He has a successful litigation practice and is an “active” professional.

Based in New York, Alan Sutin is chair of both the global intellectual property and technology practice group. He specialises in internet and electronic commerce issues and has played a pivotal role in the legal development of these areas. Our respondents praise his “business acumen” and “up-to-the-minute understanding of cutting edge technology”. Heather Meeker, co-manager of the East Palo Alto office, is an intellectual property expert with a particular interest in the technology industry. She is a “leading expert” in software and a “truly excellent IT lawyer”. Ian Ballon is “highly recommended” by many of our respondents and is “a real thought leader in the field”.

Further recognition goes to Lori Cohen, chair of the firm’s pharmaceutical, medical device & health care litigation group. She has “amazing trial skills” which she uses to great effect in product liability litigation regarding medical devices and pharmaceuticals.
