DC-based William Brownell is a long-standing member of the firm and a specialist on climate change regulation, clean air regulation and environmental licensing. His expertise is “second to none” and he is a “distinguished” figure in the market. Managing partner of the DC office, Andrea Bear Field has more than 35 years’ experience in environmental law. Her practice focuses on representing clients in federal and state enforcement actions brought by the US Environmental Protection Agency under the Clean Air Act. Alongside her, Norman Fichthorn has an “impressive reputation” for appellate litigation under the Clean Air Act and matters concerning global climate change. His clients include companies and trade associations in the electric generation industry and manufacturing industries. Kathy Robb in the New York office represents water districts, developers, electric utilities, investors, chemical manufacturers and paper companies and is considered “at the top of her game, especially in water law”. Lucas Bergkamp represents the firm’s Brussels office and is recommended for his knowledge of plant and product-related environmental law, chemical law, pesticides and biocides, contaminated sites regulation and waste regulation, among others.

Five practitioners feature in the internet, e-commerce and data protection chapter. In London, Bridget Treacy is “very well regarded” for her expertise in privacy, data protection, information governance and e-commerce. She is joined by Rosemary Jay of the same office, a “frontrunner” in the field noted for her considerable expertise in privacy law. Jay calls upon her experience at the legal office of the Data Protection Registrar, now the Information Commissioner, which she headed for 12 years.
