BA-HR (Advokatfirmaet BA-HR DA) - The Who's Who Legal 100 2014

What is the Who's Who Legal 100?

BA-HR is one of the top Norwegian law firms, and it enjoys a “prestigious reputation” in the domestic legal marketplace. Over the last year, the firm has advised on many remarkable transactions including acting for ING Bank in connection to Seadrill’s US$1.45 billion loan facilities for the acquisition of three ultra-deep water drill ships. The firm also acted for the China Fishery Group in its successful takeover of the Norwegian company Copeinca for 4.8 billion kroner. In other news, the firm made a promotion to partner in its “leading” oil and energy practice in January 2014.

PEOPLE AND PRACTICES

BA-HR fields a strong corporate tax team to aid those doing business in the country. Joachim Bjerke is a “leading light” within the Norwegian tax legal market. He is able to provide “valuable insight” into the workings of the country’s tax system for companies domestically and those abroad with inbound investments. Frode Talmo is an expert in the field of oil and shipping. He provides “crucial advice” to shipping and oil rig companies in corporate tax matters. Anne Sofie Bjørkholt is a partner in the firm’s real estate and construction practice. As well as advising on property development, she is an “expert ” on issues relating to tax and public fees.

Changes to the capital adequacy rules for banks, insurance companies and financial institutions in Norway have led to an increasing need for lawyers to assist with the development of financial instruments and techniques. Richard Sjøqvist is a “highly prized” lawyer, especially for his work in the restructuring and insolvency area. Anders Gullåsen is praised for his “meticulous” manner by clients, who are also impressed by his “depth of knowledge”. Terje Sommer has a “strong commercial outlook” while Finn Myhre, one the firm’s most senior lawyers, has “unparalleled experience” with over 40 years in financial and banking law.

Both Gunnar Sørlie and Are Stenvik are nominated in our life sciences and patents chapters. The former is “highly regarded” for his handling of patent and complex IP issues for commercial high-tech companies, while the latter has “incredible knowledge” of complex technological issues and is, as such, able to give “shrewd” advice to his clients in patent and contract matters.

LOOKING FORWARD

BA-HR sees enormous potential in the Norwegian market, with its domestic laws making the country increasingly attractive to clients looking to conduct large transactions.
