Lucien Wong relinquished his role as managing partner of the firm’s 314 lawyers in August 2012 to be replaced by Lee Kim Shin and to take up instead the roles of chairman and senior partner. “One of the pre-eminent lawyers in Singapore,” he is listed in the corporate governance, M&A and banking chapters. The firm performs particularly well in the latter, with four lawyers picked out for inclusion. Eugene Ooi stands out for his work for banks and other financial institutions, and is well known locally for assembling the firm’s Islamic finance practice. Mark Hudspeth stands out for his knowledge of regional and domestic finance transactions. Kok Chee Wai is also “strongly recommended” by clients and peers alike. On the capital markets side, Margaret Chin acted for Genting Singapore in around S$2 billion worth of perpetual securities offerings, including the first retail perpetual securities offering in Singapore. Real estate nominee Jerry Koh acted for the Far East Organisation in the IPO of Far East Hospitality Trust, which raised S$1.49 billion and is the largest diversified hospitality portfolio in Singapore.
Stanley Lai SC heads the firm’s IP practice and is recognised for his patent and life science related expertise. Deemed “incredibly smart”, he is the first Singapore-born lawyer to be conferred a PhD in law from the University of Cambridge.Daren Shiau is another partner to earn dual listings in our publication. Head of the competition and antitrust practice, he is “very skilled” and considered to be one of the finest lawyers in the region in this area. He was also commended to researchers for his environment-related work.
