PEOPLE AND PRACTICES

Lucien Wong, chairman and senior partner, is “one of the pre-eminent lawyers in Singapore”. Wong has more than 30 years of “unparalleled” experience in legal practice and is noted for his expertise in corporate governance, M&A and banking. The firm, as a whole, continues to perform particularly well in the latter. Eugene Ooi is a “trusted adviser” to banks and other financial institutions on private and commercial banking matters, trade finance and security structures. Mark Hudspeth’s banking and finance practice sees him act for both lenders and major corporate borrowers on regional and domestic syndicated loans, property developments, acquisition financings and debt restructurings. He is considered the “lawyer of choice” for intricate transactional work. Kok Chee Wai has a “broad experience” in domestic and international financing and, like the rest of the team, is “strongly recommended” by clients.

Capital markets is a further area in which the firm excels. Jerry Koh heads the firm’s REITs practice and is a “leading authority” on the subject. He also regularly advises on the founding of private equity funds and structured finance transactions, as well as acquisition and disposal transactions. Yeo Wico is consistently cited for his “wealth of experience” having spent more than two decades practising in corporate finance. Most notably, he has worked on the largest IPO and the largest bond offering in Singapore in the same year on several occasions. Margaret Chin is a “highly experienced” capital markets practitioner, who regularly advises statutory boards, financial institutions and domestic and foreign corporations. Chin is especially knowledgeable in bond documentation; she has been involved in setting up most of Singapore’s MTN programmes.

Further recognition goes to Stanley Lai SC, who is praised for his patents expertise and experience working with clients in the life sciences industry. He also advises on product liability and regulatory matters and is a “trusted adviser” to many high-profile clients in the sector.
