The latest addition to offshore firm Mourant Ozannes’ network was an office in the BVI in 2012. The firm now advises on the laws of the BVI, the Cayman Islands, Guernsey and Jersey, and according to managing partner Jonathan Rigby has set its sights on becoming the leading law firm offshore.

PEOPLE AND PRACTICES
Mourant Ozannes’ funds practice is “internationally renowned” and includes “heavyweight” Gavin Farrell who specialises in offshore fund formation with “exceptional attention to detail”. He recently advised Pembroke Heritage Fund in relation to a further capital raising by way of a private placement of up to 3.5 million ordinary shares and the subsequent listing of the shares issued pursuant to the private placement on the Channel Islands Stock Exchange. Robert Duggan is the managing partner of the London office. He specialises in the establishment, maintenance and restructuring of Cayman Islands hedge, hybrid and private equity funds. Managing partner of the Cayman Islands office Neal Lomax is co-head of the office’s investment funds group. He is a “dominant figure” in the investment funds market and his recent work includes advising Ipreo Holdings on its sale to Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co LP. Edward Devenport in Jersey is “incredibly knowledgeable” on the regulation of investment funds and is considered a “great asset” to his clients.
The international trusts and private client practice group assists clients in finding the most appropriate jurisdiction in which to establish and administer their wealth management structures. Jersey-based Jonathan Speck is “in a league of his own” according to peers. He advises on contentious and non-contentious trust cases and is “truly superb”. Among his most notable work is the Alhamrani case where he acted as lead advocate for JPMorgan. Morven McMillan heads the practice in the Cayman Islands and is “thoroughly recommended” for her experience in trust disputes. Jeremy Wessels in Guernsey is “sensational” in contentious trust disputes. He also has experience in asset tracing and freezing orders, and insolvency.
Peter Hayden is head of litigation and insolvency in the firm’s Cayman Islands office. He has a “wealth of expertise” in financial services litigation due to his former in-house counsel roles at UBS and Barclays. He is noted for his asset recovery and insolvency and restructuring expertise.
