Nominated as Sweden’s firm of the year for the eighth time, Mannheimer Swartling is held in high regard for both domestic and international work across a full range of sectors. It retains a strong presence in Sweden with around 300 lawyers in Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmö and Helsingborg, and has a reputation for “excellent quality” both domestically and in its offices in Germany, Russia, China, Belgium and the US. In this year’s edition, the firm is represented in 18 practice areas, with a total of 35 inclusions.

Dispute resolution remains a key practice area for the firm, with three inclusions apiece in our arbitration and commercial litigation chapters. Kaj Hobér is nominated highly in both areas, with particular praise for his international arbitration experience. He is sought after by companies worldwide and peers note his “thoughtful and calm” approach. Alongside him, Robin Oldenstam is “top notch” in both litigation and arbitration. Co-chair of the firm’s dispute resolution group, he has acted in and chaired disputes from a broad range of industries including real estate, energy and the financial sector. Litigator Olle Flygt has a “terrific courtroom presence” and is widely regarded as a “formidable” advocate. Stockholm-based Jakob Ragnwaldh has a “wealth of experience” in all the main arbitral tribunals, including the ICC and ICSID, as well as being frequently asked to sit as an ad-hoc arbitrator.
Mannheimer Swartling also fields a particularly strong finance team that acts for domestic and international borrowers and lenders, from government bodies to large corporations including Ericsson and Securitas. Chair of the banking and finance group André Andersson is highly nominated in both our banking and capital markets chapters and particularly active in aviation finance; clients praise his “encyclopaedic knowledge” and “commercial nous”. Eva Hägg specialises in capital markets – as chair of the equity capital markets group, she is considered “superb” by clients and peers alike. Banking expert Daniel Karlsson “really stands out”, having recently acted for real estate company Hemsö Fastighets AB on a high-value bond issue.
The firm is nominated highly in corporate governance and M&A. Head of global M&A Biörn Riese enjoys an “excellent” reputation, and colleague Fredrik Andretzky is lauded for his “practical skill and dazzling intellectual ability”, borne of over 10 years’ experience in a range of sectors from construction to healthcare and financial services. Adam Green focuses on purchase, sales and investment in companies, and his expertise includes cross-border transactions. Peers describe him as “talented and very smart”.
The breadth of Mannheimer Swartling’s multidisciplinary practice is demonstrated by its inclusion in a further 12 practice area chapters. A particular stand-out is Martin Pekkari, a key member of the IT and telecommunications team. He is praised by clients for his “depth of knowledge” of all areas of IT, including outsourcing and privacy protection. The competition team is also well represented with two inclusions.
