Advising Minera Panama in connection with a US$6 billion copper mining project, the biggest private sector investment in Panama’s history; including infrastructure development matters such as 300MW two-unit coal-fired generating facility, a port facility on the Caribbean coast north of the mine; environmental law issues on land and surface rights; drafting of loan agreements before banking and financial entities; immigration and labour related matters; litigation matters; and every critical step on corporate matters related to Panamanian law.
Advising the lenders with respect to loans for an amount up to US$300 million for the financing of four wind farms in Panama. The project is expected to be the largest wind farm in Central America and a new component in Panama’s renewable energy matrix.
Advising Metro de Panama, SA, in connection with EPC Contract for lines one and two Panama City’s Metro, the most important public infrastructure project under development in the Republic of Panama and the first of its class in Central America.
Advising First Transit in connection with a Consulting Services Agreement for the operation of the Metro Bus system, the bus rapid system for Panama City, comprising 1,200 buses and seven bus stations, providing services to more than 500,000 daily citizens.
Advising Tropical Energies Corp (Trenco), a Panamanian company in LPG, in connection with the sale to PUMA, a Colombian petroleum company, of part of its tank farm in Telfers Island, on the Atlantic entrance to the Canal.
Advising Constructora Urbana, SA (CUSA), the largest Panamanian owned civil contractor, as a partner of Grupo Unidos por el Canal (GUPC) in the Panama Canal Expansion Project
Advising Panama Ports Company, a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa, in connection with the process started by the Panama Canal Authority to grant a concession to build and operate a port at Corozal, on the Pacific entrance to the Canal.
Advising a bank syndicate, originally led by HSBC, in connection with the repayment of its loans as part of the acquisition by the government of Panama of Mi Bus, a subsidiary of Colombia’s FANALCA, the bus transport system operator in Panama City.
Advising the Ministry of Economy and Finance, Empresa Nacional de Autopista, SA (ENA) and ENA Norte, SA (an affiliate of ENA), in the acquisition of the Corredor Norte, a toll road concession in the Republic of Panama.
Pro bono: Our attorneys dedicate more than 1,800 hours per year to pro bono. In 2014, the firm formally subscribed its pro bono commitment to the project Food Bank of Panama. This initiative seeks to collect any excess from food businesses and industries for distribution to charities. Furthermore, Morgan & Morgan was responsible for drafting a bill to organise national volunteering in the country.
