Project finance emerges as the firm’s strongest practice with 12 lawyers selected for inclusion from six of the firm’s offices. Cynthia Urda Kassis is one of the leading individuals in the research overall and is additionally recognised by our publication in the areas of banking, mining and public procurement. Her “first-rate” practice is well regarded in the international market and she continues to impress clients with her “efficient and responsive manner”. Also in New York, deputy practice group leader of the firm’s project development and finance group Gregory Tan is considered “top notch” for projects in the energy and infrastructure industries. Jeanne Olivier earns high praise for her “strong technical abilities” and is listed in our banking and project finance chapters. She also advises sponsors and lenders in political risk insurance matters. London-based Nicholas Buckworth’s notable matters include advising the European Investment Bank in relation to its £200 million financing towards the construction of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link as well as advising DVB Bank as lenders in relation to the $55 million financing of the acquisition and expansion of the Curacao Airport. Alongside him, Tim Pick heads the global project development and finance group at the firm and is listed for both his project finance and oil and gas expertise. He has particular experience in working with Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds on the financing of their external investments and of Islamic financing. Christophe Asselineau heads the firm’s Africa practice and the project development and finance group in Paris. He is highly regarded for both his mining and project finance abilities and is praised by clients as “world class”. Managing partner of the Abu Dhabi office, Philip Dundas is “well versed” in the areas of project finance, oil and gas and M&A and earns a listing in each respective chapter.

Shearman & Sterling fields eight lawyers to the banking chapter, seven of whom are based in the firm’s New York office. Antonia Stolper, head of the firm’s capital markets-Americas group, focuses her practice on corporate finance transactions in emerging markets and her notable transactions include advising Credit Suisse and J P Morgan as initial purchasers of Banco Davivienda for $500 million of senior notes. She is listed in the banking and capital markets chapters. Eight lawyers represent the firm in the competition chapter, with four lawyers each in the Brussels and New York office.
